I've ordered TWO pairs of shoes and I don't even have a dress yet. But they're both so gorgeous in different ways, I'm sure one of 'em will work!!!

People *Do* This?

I just finished slogging through one of the many wedding guides on the market. This one purports to "help brides save money and have the wedding they want" (they always help brides, never grooms... hmmm).

Well, hundreds of helpful tips later, having already been 90% sure that we were opting out of the traditional ceremony and reception in church and hotel in Large American City, I was 100% sure.

I know it's what works best for many. But I couldn't imagine having to negotiate with caterers to have them serve my friends and family $60 chicken, a dj to NOT play Butterfly Kisses, and a hotel coordinator to get them to reduce that cake cutting fee from $3 a slice all the way down to $1.50.

We're not eloping. Not at all. But I am opting out of the hoopla.

Next up: avoiding dress hoopla!

1 engagement and a funeral

Kosh's grandmother passed away earlier this week. We're flying out for the funeral tomorrow morning. This is one of those awkward 'yay?' times- it saves a trip to Kosh's family until later in the summer, amongst other positive things. (One of those being that his grandmother is no longer in pain, of course.)

The whiny part of me says that I'm still sick and coughing, we're just getting started finding a new place, and the funeral is in the middle of nowhere PA. But I know all that is really irrelevant in the big picture.

So packing our bags is what I SHOULD be doing. Instead we're going to a birthday party for a good friend of mine. What a strange week it's been.
